MELLOR PARK

LCS’ Design and Construct team assisted the City of West Torrens with reworking and designing the pre existing Mellor Park space to facilitate a site upgrade including the removal of the old Windsor Theatre, dilapidated tennis courts and other unused infrastructure of the site. The design process was to retain and enhance the existing stand of River Red gums and open feel for the reserve and design a new play space linking it to new courts and off-street carpark.

The play space includes a flying fox, climbing tower and slide all located centrally within the reserve. BBQs, shelters, picnic tables, drinking fountains, public toilets and a new carpark make this reserve a well-integrated public asset for the local and broader community. New tree planting helps provide additional shade with large deciduous tree species while the carpark and courts have a dedicated bio-retention system that filters run off and is planted with local endemic species.

The completed reserve is very popular for parties and functions with irrigated grass open spaces. The full-size Bocce court is used by very passionate locals in addition to new Tennis Court and Basketball facilities. Overall, Mellor Park is a well-considered reserve with quality materials and finishes that enhance and reflect its seamless beauty.
